Ahhh, 8am and we are awoken by the sweet sound of twittering rev limiter and someone who patently has no regard for their bike thrashes the tits out of it from cold. One day, one day I'll be awoken by the sound of waaaahh,ah,ah,ah,ah,ah,ah...bang, thrump, snash, fruunk!, the bewildered owner no doubt following the event with those immortal words of 'how did that happen?', duh!, Well, like lots of folk I can be right crabbit in the mornin', especially with that friend of Jack's repeatedly whappin' me on the back of the head with that shovel.. Coffee, now !, luckily one of the stalls was thoughfully selling 'rocket fuel' coffee. |

I ran into Evelyn and Davy from the Hillbillies who's mates Del and Sheena were getting married at the Castle. They had done the 'legal' bit on Friday and were having a ceremony at the rally. For whatever reason, they were short of a photographer, so they asked me to step in, oh well, a wedding, there'll be drink !. Congratulations to Del and Sheena, it was a great place to get hitched complete with the pipes, played by Stevie . |

One of my favourite bits now, the Bike Show. Tim, who had the unenviable job of organising it asked me to be one of the judges. I had the pleasure of sharing the task with Blue from BSH, we managed to agree on most winners. The other judge was the bloke from the Honda stand. It was interesting when we came to compare notes at the end. Mr Honda (sorry missed yer name mate) had quite a different outlook from Blue and me. I thought the quality of the entries was stunning, I know a few folk who didn't agree, but careful inspection showed a huge amount of work and ingenuity in many of the entries. |

I was a bit bemused to see a few stock bikes, particularly of a certain marque, I guess they just wanted a T-Shirt. I could've done with one to wipe all the drool of me bottom lip. The moment I walked into the arena I immediately found myself be dragged by a sixth sense to Mike's VS Intruder. I'm a big, big fan of the bikes the ex? Whitby 77 guys turn out, I read elsewhere someone say that 'everything that could be done with a custom bike had been done', bollocks, there's always someone pushing the envelope. I would have liked to pick lods more entries for prizes, definite 'honourable mentions' to Jim Pringle's and his missus's Harleys. Built by his own hand in his spare time since last year, they are absolutely gorgeous, his brother 'Ping's' Harley has been turning heads for a couple of years now. My FJ12 motor fetish drew me to the hardtail with car back wheel, twin 40's and suicide shift, I was like a kid in a sweet shop. It's all been done, my arse ! |
Hmm, Barley twist Sir, suits you. |
This year it was decided to create a class of 'Best Professional Build' , this enabled more shed built bikes to be in with a chance. It gladdens me ol' heart that there are so many folk out there building chops in sheds and garages on shoestrings and turning out such high quality bikes. So inspired was I that I'm actually looking forward to winter so I can get back into finishing my current project. |
